A Walk Through Ireland’s Christmas Markets

Christmas markets are an exciting part of the festive season across Ireland, with markets big and small popping up all over the country from late November each year. But what makes Ireland’s Christmas markets so special? In this post, we take our big Irish family to discover the sights, tastes and delights of an Irish Christmas market.

It is worth taking a trip to Ireland's Christmas markets for the food alone! Normally markets have a selection of local traders, as well as those from further across Europe. Typical offerings include a whole manner of hot street food from hog roast to french crepes.

The opening of the Christmas markets often coincide with a 'Christmas lights switch-on' but there are fun things to do all season long. Ice skating, ferris wheels, carousels, carol concerts and other festivities are typical.

Waterford Winterval features a ferris wheel and cute Christmas 'tram'.
