Revealing An Ghealach

So many of you have already been in touch to say that you have received, and are thoroughly in love with, your An Ghealach boxes and I am over the moon to hear it. I couldn’t wait to take this journey with you through the mysteries of the moon, and the enigmatic light that it shines on Ireland’s culture and heritage throughout the ages. Below I’m going to go into a bit more detail about the items in this beautiful collection of moonlight and rainbows – so if you’re yet to open yours - beware of spoilers!

If you didn’t sign up in time for our Deireadh Fómhair box then there’s a little bit of lunar luck shining on your side – as there are still a few boxes up for grabs! You better be quick though – I’d be surprised if they lasted for a full cycle…

Hand-carved Sun Catcher

I completely fell in love with these beautiful hand-carved sun catchers, and in fact seeing one was what inspired me to develop the theme of An Ghealach in the first place

The sunbeams of the day will dance around your home in dazzling rainbow patterns, as they strike the stunning Swarovski crystal that dangles from the crescent moon – loving crafted from locally sourced Irish wood. It’s such a lovely homage to the light that brightens up our night sky, and lets us appreciate the wonders of the an ghealach’s glow during the day!

This delightful trinket comes to you all the way from Co. Leitrim, where creative couple Giolla and Emily design spellbinding sun catchers, that help to invite just a little bit of magic into your home.

Clear Moon Print

Wouldn’t it be lovely to see some of that kaleidoscopic light refract onto on image of the moon itself? If you hang this beautiful print on a wall in sparkling distance of your sun catcher – then you can achieve just that!

This stunning creation from Dublin’s Jando Designs shows a serenely clear supermoon, clambering up through the horizon – illuminating the branches of every forest tree in its wake. The natural inspiration for this piece is a departure from Jando Designs’ usual architectural muses, but maintains the bold and powerful aesthetic for which they are so well known.

The result is a moody yet romantic interpretation of Ireland’s night sky, and a wonderful way to display the mysteries of an ghealach in plain sight.

What's Inside?

Each month we choose a wonderful theme to base our product curation around.

Whether it's Dublin, The Wild Atlantic Way or St Patrick's Day, we strive for every box to have something wonderful to wear, a gift to share, a treat to eat and a treasure to live in your home.

Every month we work with fantastic small Irish businesses; so no matter where you are in the world, you're helping Ireland!

Luna Bianca - Ritual Hair Rinse

Invoke your inner lunar goddess, by nourishing your locks by the light of the full moon with the wonderfully fragrant hair rinse that you will find in this month’s offering.

Lovingly handmade in Co. Cork by Daughter of Flowers, this beautifying potion is an invigorating blend of jasmine, maidenhair and moringa.

When the moon is at its fullest it is said to promote the growth of all which it shines on – including your hair. Even if you are a bit doubtful about the more mystic properties of the routine, you won’t be able to deny the luscious glint that will caress your tresses when you are done – almost as though they hold just a little bit of the moon’s light amongst them.

Aunty Nellie’s Milseáin Lánghealach (Full Moon Sweets)

These gorgeous little bon bons are like mini multicoloured moons all of their own, with a heavenly taste to match.

Aunty Nellie’s traditional treats all contain a welcome splash of nostalgia, that brings back treasured childhood memories with every chew. These white, blue, pink and yellow candies are all contained in a quaint little Victorian jar – which adds an extra special touch to the whole experience.

I thoroughly enjoyed sampling these (for the benefit of my lovely Irish at Heart family of course), yet I was simply unable to pick a favourite from the four delectable flavours on offer. If one of these moons shines more brightly for you than the others then please do let me know – although I’m sure you will enjoy all of these lovely little lunar confectionaries.

Hand-carved Ghealach Magnet

This last gift, a gorgeous hand-carved magnet, that is carefully wrapped in your emerald green tissue paper fills me with a huge sense of pride and wonder for the rich heritage of the country that I am lucky enough to call my own.

Pearse Caulfield of Caulfield Country Boards in Co. Meath has woven his vast knowledge of the Ancient Ogham language into his equally impressive talent for woodwork with these gorgeous wooden magnets – which have been exclusively hand-carved for our Irish at Heart subscribers. In ancient times the Ogham alphabet served as one of civilisation’s first written languages, and the intricate markings that you hold in your hand have etched our theme “Gealach” onto the surface of this magnificent magnetic memento.

It's a gorgeous reminder that the moon has shone into the minds of mankind since we first started to communicate, and it’s illuminating fascination is showing no signs of waning.
